Earle's Cement Works, Melton, September 2012.

Earles Cement Works, Melton East Yorkshire

Earles Cemeent Works, or should I say, what's left of it? Only two buildings remain on site, one sealed warehouse style building, and an engine shed. The place looked terrible, nothing could possible be of interest here could it, surely not? Clearly I was wrong, upon closer inspection of the engine shed, the unexpected was found, an intact railway shunter just sat there abandoned!

Above, what I saw as I took a closer look at the shed, a hand rail and wheels and a lot of intrigue and excitement! The shunter is a Fowler one of only a few remaining in the UK, built in Leeds by John Fowler and Co. Her works number is 4240017 and she is ifact not supposed to exist! She is recorded in her logs as cut up on site (Melton)! Makes me wonder how many other 'scrapped' locmotives may still be out there waiting to be found!
