Crewe DMD, August 2012
Crewe Diesel Maintainence Depot, August 2012
Introduction:
Whilst in Crewe for the DRS Crewe Gresty Bridge Depot open day I thought I'd take the opportunity to have a gander round Crewe DMD too. Now this was always going to be a bit of a risky one due to the railway trespass law meaning that I could be arrested and detained for criminal trespass, rather than in been a civil matter. I wasn't too put off though as I'd put together a fool proof plan that should get me past the 'live' section of the works and round to the 'abandoned' part of the site to the rear of the depot. I put my plan into action and it worked, I managed to slip past workers and CCTV cameras undetected reaching the abandoned locomotives at the rear of the site. I quickly pulled out my camera and began shooting at the two freight locomotives, class 56, 56077 'Thorpe Marsh Power Station' & class 58, 58022. I jumped in the cabs and fireing off a few shots, did a quick circle around both engines and then left the site as quickly as I'd entered it, job well done. I did try the doors to the main shed where the class 60's and 37's where stored, but sadly, no luck on my visit. In and out undetected with all the shots I wanted, job well done!
Today the site is active onece again, the locomotives have been moved to new sites and the shed is once again actively servicing and repairing loco's.
